AC Milan coach Pioli leads list of top Serie A coaches

After leading the Rossoneri to the Scudetto, Stefano Pioli is amongst seven coaches named in FourFourTwo's list of top 50 managers, but there's no room for Max Allegri

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli has been recognised for his achievements in leading the club to the Serie A title after being listed as the fifth-best in the world, according to British magazine FourFourTwo.

The magazine posted it’s annual list of the top 50 managers around the world, with strong Serie A representation led by Pioli, after he guided the Rossoneri to a first Scudetto in 11 years in May.

The 56-year-old was ranked in fifth place, with Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola taking top spot.

Italian duo Carlo Ancelotti and Antonio Conte were ranked in second and fourth respectively, either side of Liverpool‘s Jurgen Klopp, with the former guiding Real Madrid to the Champions League and the latter enjoying a strong start to life at Tottenham Hotspur.

The next highest ranking coach in Serie A was Atalanta‘s Gian Piero Gasperini at 23, slightly ahead of Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti at 27th.

AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho‘s Europa Conference League success last season was enough to secure 35th place, ahead of Inter coach Simone Inzaghi at 40th.

Fiorentina‘s Vincenzo Italiano and Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri rounded off the Serie A representation, coming in at 46th and 49th respectively.

No room for Juventus coach Allegri

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the unconvincing campaign Juventus are enduring, there was no place in the list for Massimiliano Allegri.

The tactician returned to the Bianconeri in 2021 after a hugely successful spell between 2014 and 2019, but has failed to replicate that over the past two seasons.

Having scraped into fourth place last term, Juventus have made a miserable start to the current campaign and the pressure has mounted on Allegri. Indeed, his failure to make the top 50 list may well be the least of his concerns.
