Who is AC Milan’s record goalscorer?

As one of the most illustrious clubs in world football, AC Milan have had a long list of top-level strikers throughout their history. But who is the Rossoneri's all-time top goalscorer, and who makes the Top 10?

Despite the catalogue of great attacking talent to have worn the famous AC Milan shirt during their history, a player who last appeared for the club in 1956 still tops the list of those to have scored the most goals in their history.

During their dominance of domestic and continental competition in the late-1980s and 1990s, the likes of Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit and George Weah entertained the crowds at the Stadio San Siro, but few had the longevity of the Swedish international.

In more recent times, the No.9 shirt, often held by the Rossoneri’s leading striker has often appeared cursed, with Luiz Adriano, Gonzalo Higuain and Fernando Torres some of those failing to shine in the historic jersey. Of course, that’s not forgetting the iconic forward earlier in the 21st century that Milan had on their books, namely Ronaldo Nazario and Andriy Shevchenko, among others.

Who is AC Milan’s highest-ever goalscorer?

Despite all of the star names to have played for Milan since the 1950s, Swede Gunnar Nordahl remains untouchable at the top of the club’s scoring charts, and he remains their all-time top goalscorer to this day.

Arriving from IFK Norrkoping in January 1949, Nordahl made an impressive start to life in Serie A, with 16 goals in his first 25 appearances, and his individual achievements would eventually exceed those with the team. In eight seasons at Milan, the Swede would win the Capocannoniere crown – Serie A‘s top goalscorer prize – five times, but just two Serie A titles.

By the time Nordahl left the club to join AS Roma in 1956, he had netted 221 goals in all competitions for the Rossoneri in just 268 appearances. Just how impressive that scoring rate is cannot be overlooked, and it becomes all the clearer when it is considered that it took the legendary Shevchenko 322 appearances to register 175 strikes, leaving the Ukrainian a long way behind in second place.

Kaka a surprise in the Top 10

Although seen more as a source of creativity in a Milan side that reached two Champions League finals in three years under Carlo Ancelotti, Brazilian Kaka also chipped in with his share of the goals in a side littered with talent. His ex-teammate Filippo Inzaghi also makes an appearance in the list of AC Milan’s Top 10 goalscorers with 126 goals.

During two spells with the Rossoneri – returning for a one-season cameo in 2013/14 – Kaka takes up 9th place in the standings with 104 goals in 307 appearances in all competitions. The Brazilian was particularly prolific in European competition, scoring 26 goals in 69 games, and being fundamental to their Champions League success in 2007.
