AC Milan’s summer signings leave fans in Curva Sud satisfied: “We asked for improvements and got them”

AC Milan's summer transfer window last year was a disaster, and their attempts to defend their title never got going. This year, though, they're signing well and their fans have been left happy.

The signings made by AC Milan in the 2022 summer transfer window left a lot to be desired. In the 2023 window, though, the Rossoneri appear to be building a squad that they believe will allow them to compete for the scudetto again, having been dethroned by Napoli without much of a fight.

AC Milan spent around €50 million after their 2021/22 Serie A title win. The majority of that went to Club Brugge for their highly-rated youngster Charles De Ketelaere. But the 21-year-old failed to live up to the expectations surrounding him when he joined and had a forgettable 2022/23 season.

Divock Origi, Sergino Dest, and Aster Vranckx are other names who all failed to assist Milan in their aims for the 22/23 season where they fell short in multiple areas, with the only shining light being their Champions League run, however, even this was tarnished by a defeat against Derby della Madonnina rivals Inter in the semi-finals.

As a result, there’s an awareness from everybody at AC Milan – from those on the board to those in the stands at the Stadio San Siro – that work needs to be done.

AC Milan’s transfer activity pleases fans

The summer of 2023 has not only been about investing in bringing in young players, but also signing players with experience that still have more to give.

AC Milan have brought in Marco Sportiello who arrived after his contract expired with Atalanta, also adding Chelsea‘s Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, costing a combined fee of around €40 million.

Turning to younger arrivals, Stefano Pioli has had Luka Romero signed from Lazio, after the expiration of his contract. Tijjani Reijnders came in from AZ Alkmaar for €23m, and Noah Okafor and Samuel Chukwueze from RB Salzburg and Villarreal, respectively.

It is also believed that Milan have completed the signing of another American talent in Yunus Musah from Valencia for a fee in the region of €20m.

“We haven’t seen Milan making so many good moves in the transfer window in years,” said Luca Lucci, a member of Milan’s famous Curva Sud.

Lucci, continuing, added: “We asked for a jump in quality and it’s clear now that the club are taking an approach that couldn’t be more satisfactory.”

Milan fans had grown frustrated earlier in the summer as the Rossoneri missed out on the signings of Marcus Thuram and Davide Frattesi, both joining Inter.
