Arianna Caruso: Juventus Women’s record-breaking star who, at 22, has plenty more to give

It doesn't make much sense that Arianna Caruso has won what she has won at just 22 years old. With her, Juventus Women have one of the most unassumingly brilliant individuals in Serie A Femminile.

You could be forgiven for rubbing your eyes in disbelief when they appear to tell you that Arianna Caruso has not yet turned 23 years old. The Juventus Women midfielder has done it all already and, until November 6, she’s still only 22.

As Juventus beat Sampdoria in Matchday 6 of Serie A Femminile, Caruso reached 150 appearances for the Bianconere. She had previously become the first player to hit a century of appearances for the club as well, having joined from Res Roma in 2017.

At 22, Caruso is one of the most important players that coach Joe Montemurro has at his disposal in Turin, and it speaks volumes about her consistency and ability to always be available that she had played even more than veterans and seemingly ever-present stars Lisa Boattin and Barbara Bonansea, among others. Caruso has played 20 games more for Juventus than the 31-year-old forward, and just a couple more than Boattin.

Juventus’ third-highest goalscorer

Caruso has scored an impressive 42 goals in those appearances as well, as highlighted by LFootball, behind only Bonansea’s 67 and Cristiana Girelli’s 84. Caruso, though, isn’t a forward.

She ended the 2021/22 season as the Bianconere’s leading goalscorer, despite those goals coming from midfield, and she’s a threat that just doesn’t go away. Against Sampdoria, as she hit 150 appearances, she had a hand in three of Juventus’ four goals, scoring one. A reminder: Arianna Caruso is just 22 years old.

She’s a player that Montemurro always calls upon, just as Rita Guarino did before him, and as Milena Bertolini does with the Italian Women’s National Team as well.

Going to the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Caruso will have had another year under her belt, another season in the Women’s Champions League, and likely another decent tally of goals – that’s assuming hoping that injuries leave her alone.

The Roman who grew up idolising Francesco Totti in the capital has found a home for herself in Piemonte. Now, she’s facing a bigger challenge than ever domestically as her beloved hometown club – AS Roma – are posing a serious threat to Juventus’ stranglehold on the Serie A Femminile title
