AS Roma, Atalanta and Fiorentina: Europa League & Conference League previews – Matchday 3 2023/24

AS Roma and Atalanta are back in Europa League action as they try to take control of their groups, whilst Fiorentina have ground to make up in the Europa Conference League.

With the Champions League action having passed, Matchday 3 of the Europa League and Europa Conference League are here and three Serie A teams, AS Roma, Atalanta and Fiorentina will be in action.

There is a very big game in Rome as the Giallorossie get ready to take on Slavia Praha, with the two sides having both won their first games of Group G in the Europa League. Any winner would stand a great chance of winning the group, and having full control over proceedings would allow Roma the chance to rest more players in the final couple of games.

As for Atalanta in Europa League Group D, they already have control of the group and can all but qualify if they win away at Sturm Graz. La Dea have a three-point lead over both Sporting CP and Sturm Graz, so a defeat for Atalanta and a win for Sporting could see three teams end up on six points at the halfway stage.

In the Europa Conference League, there is plenty of work for Fiorentina to do as they are two points behind both Genk and Ferencvaros. La Viola are up against Serbian side Cukaricki, who lost both of their opening games, so Vincenzo Italiano‘s side really should be getting three points.

Team news and predicted lineups

AS Roma vs Slavia Praha – Europa League

Renato Sanches is back in training for Roma and there is an outside chance that he gets some minutes at the Stadio Olimpico. Lorenzo Pellegrini and Paulo Dybala will remain absent, which is a blow. Chris Smalling should make the bench, whilst Evan Ndicka and Sardar Azmoun are doubts.

Slavia Praha should be able to name their strongest eleven, with Nigerian defender Igoh Ogbu set to return, while Slovakia international Jakub Hromada returned to the midfield on Saturday; Petr Sevcik and Sheriff Sinyan are both back in contention too.

AS Roma predicted lineup vs Slavia Praha (3-5-2): Svilar; Mancini, Llorente, Ndicka; Celik, Bove, Paredes, Aouar, El Shaarawy; Belotti, Lukaku

Slavia Praha predicted lineup vs AS Roma (3-5-2): Mandous; Masopust, Ogbu, Holes; Doudera, Zafeiris, Dorley, Hromada, Dumitrescu; Schranz, Chytll

Sturm Graz vs Atalanta – Europa League

Sturm Graz are not expected to make many changes from the weekend, so that means Seedy Jatta will almost certainly be leading the line. He will be joined in the attack by Szymon Wlodarczyk.

Teun Koopmeiners is the only major absentee for Atalanta at the moment which means that it will presumably be Marten de Roon alongside Ederson. Gianluca Scamacca should get another chance to lead the line for La Dea.

Sturm Graz predicted lineup vs Atalanta (4-2-2-2): Scherpen; Gazibegovic, Affengruber, Wuthrich, Schnegg; Stankovic, Hierlander; Prass, Kiteishvili; Jatta, Wlodarczyk

Atalanta predicted lineup vs Sturm Graz (3-4-3): Carnesecchi; Toloi, Djimsiti, Scalvini; Zappacosta, De Roon, Ederson, Ruggeri; De Ketelaere, Scamacca, Lookman

Fiorentina vs Cukaricki – Europa Conference League

Even though the situation is a little sticky for Fiorentina, Italiano is expected to rotate after playing a strong team in Monday’s defeat against Empoli. Nico Gonzalez may be rested. Yerry Mina, Dodo and Gaetano Castrovilli remain out injured.

Ze Mario is the main absentee for Cukaricki, so Sunday Adetunji is likely to be the main threat for the Serbian side, although he is yet to score this season.

Fiorentina predicted lineup vs Cukaricki (4-3-3): Terracciano; Kayode, Martinez Quarta, Ranieri, Biraghi; Lopez, Mandragora, Barak; Ikone, Beltran, Sottil

Cukaricki predicted lineup vs Fiorentina (4-4-1-1): Belic; Stevanovic, Vranjes, Subotic, Tosic; Stankovic, Docic, Sissoko, Ivanovic, Adzic; Adetunji
