AS Roma have announced their second signing of the summer transfer window already with French defender Evan Ndicka joining the Giallorossi on a free transfer.

It was widely reported on Tuesday that the defender was set to undergo his medical in Rome ahead of the move, and the club then officially announced the signing on…

The 23-year-old will be joining from Eintracht Frankfurt, where his contract is up at the end of June. Roma have managed to beat off the competition from teams such as AC Milan, Tottenham and Barcelona to acquire his signature.

AS Roma moving fast

Having announced Houssem Aouar as the first signing of the summer on Monday, the Ndicka deal shows that the Giallorossi are not hanging about and want to give Jose Mourinho a better squad next season.

The signing makes a lot of sense considering there is strong speculation that Roger Ibanez could be sold this summer.

Ndicka’s contract with Roma, which was signed on Wednesday, will keep him with the Giallorossi until 2028. โ€œThe way that the project was explained to me along with this clubโ€™s history and prestige made me want to come to Rome, which is a fantastic city that loves and lives for football. I canโ€™t wait to take to the Olimpico pitch in front of my new supporters and make my contribution towards achieving our objectives,” Ndicka said.

What does Evan Ndicka bring to AS Roma?

Evan Ndicka signed for Eintracht Frankfurt from Auxerre in 2018 and he has grown into a really important part of a very successful team that is now starting to be picked apart.

He can operate on the right or left centre-back position in a back four but has been known to play left-back, meaning Mourinho may use him on the left of a back three.

He has made 44 appearances for the Bundesliga side this season which shows he has superb fitness levels, a major selling point for Roma given the number of injuries that they have contended with.

He played in 11 of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Europa League games as they won the tournament in 2021/22, and has played eight Champions League games this season. He has experience well beyond his young age and could be a very good piece of business, on a free transfer, for Roma.

Both he and Aouar bring the average age of the starting eleven down if they come straight into the side, they both have the potential to develop, and there is scope for a big capital gain on both down the line.
