A seismic game is on the horizon in Serie A Femminile on Matchday 12 between AS Roma Women and Juventus Women; the league leaders and the current champions who are trying to stay within reach of their main rivals.

Hard-fought wins for both teams on Matchday 11 have set the scene perfectly for their clash at the Stadio Tre Fontane on Sunday, December 11. The match gets underway at 14:30 CET, and it is by far the biggest of the season so far.

AS Roma and Juventus get the better of Milan sides

On Matchday 11, the gap was six points between AS Roma and Juventus which meant that the difficult matches against AC Milan and Inter respectively had a lot riding on them.

Roma have become adept at dispatching of teams with very minimal fuss, shown by this being their fifth 2-0 win of the season in just 11 games. Two goals from Manuela Giugliano meant that there were no dramas for Alessandro Spugna’s side and they could turn their focus to the UEFA Women’s Champions League match against Wolfsburg a few days later.

As for Juventus, they had arguably the harder match away at Rita Guarino’s Inter. It was a very tight game with the Nerazzurre getting plenty of chances, but two quick goals for Juventus at the start of the second half from Barbara Bonansea and Arianna Caruso killed the game and Joe Montemurro’s side got the win they needed to maintain the gap to Roma.

Showdown in Rome

When Juventus travel to Rome on Sunday afternoon, they will be very aware that a defeat could put Roma out of sight at the top. A nine-point lead is huge considering how composed Roma look every time they take the field.

This is where the mid-season split makes things very interesting. A nine-point lead with six games left to play, none of which are against each other, would make Roma the overwhelming favourites.

Once the league splits though, there are another eight games to play and Roma and Juventus will play each other twice more. There is a long way to go in this title fight with this only being the second out of four league meetings between the two sides who are head and shoulders above the rest of Serie A Femminile right now.

AS Roma vs Juventus will be shown for free on La7, and is also available to stream here, even outside of Italy.

Other Matchday 11 results

Elsewhere on Matchday 11 in Serie A Femminile, there was an entertaining game between Sassuolo and Parma that saw Eleonora Goldoni’s stoppage-time header snatch a point for the Neroverde in a 2-2 draw after some great goals from Melania Martinovic and Lana Clelland.

Fiorentina almost threw away a three-goal lead as they beat Como 3-2, whilst Sampdoria were dragged closer towards the bottom of the table by losing 1-0 away at Pomigliano.
