AS Roma 2-2 Salernitana: Goals, highlights and report – Serie A 2023/24

AS Roma were not able to get off to a winning start in Serie A despite two goals from Andrea Belotti, as Antonio Candreva secured a point for Salernitana with two stunning goals.

AS Roma began their 2023/24 Serie A campaign with a 2-2 draw against Salernitana at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening with two goals each for Andrea Belotti and Antonio Candreva.

Belotti thought he had opened the scoring nine minutes in but his goal was ruled offside after intervention from VAR. The 29-year-old didn’t face the same outcome in the 17th minute though, slotting the ball under Guillermo Ochoa to give the home side the lead. The visitors then equalised nine minutes before half-time through Antonio Candreva.

The Granata would take the lead shortly after halftime, with the Italian veteran again showing some brilliance to make it 2-1 from distance. Salernitana didn’t hold onto the victory though, as Belotti tied the game in the final ten minutes, heading in Leandro Paredes’ corner.

For the Giallorossi, it will feel like two points dropped, however, with Jose Mourinho absent from the sidelines and Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini serving their final games of their respective suspensions, there can be positives taken. For Salernitana, there were moments of brilliance from Candreva but it was not a superb team performance.
