The 2022/23 season ended in heartache for AS Roma. Their Europa League final loss on penalties to Sevilla came as a bitter pill for Jose Mourinho and all at the club to swallow. The pain of losing a European final was made worse by the fact that it also meant they wouldn’t play in the Champions League in 2023/24, having fallen short in Serie A.
Mourinho decided to stay put in the Eternal City though, and he did so while demanding reinforcements were brought in and a rebuild was carried out to give him a squad capable of doing better next season. The club obliged, and immediately got to work before the transfer window even opened, bringing in both Houssem Aouar and Evan Ndicka early in June on free transfers.
This article will be consistently updated throughout the 2023 summer transfer window to include every AS Roma signing and sale, so save this to your bookmarks and check in on all of the comings and goings from the Italian champions.
AS Roma 2023 summer signings

With Mourinho wanting reinforcements and the club concerned that the coach may depart, they started early in giving him what he needed and both Aouar and Ndicka arrived for no fee early in June, setting things in motion.
Then, though, things went quiet for a while and the next players to come in were those returning from loan at the end of the month, most notably Eldor Shomurodov making his way back to the capital after having been relegated with Spezia.
Both Renato Sanches and Leonardo Paredes arrived to bolster the midfield in August, before the loan of Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun was announced.
AS Roma 2023 summer sales
A number of Roma players moved on at the end of the 2022/23 season, whether they were players already out on loan being sold, loanees at the Stadio Olimpico seeing their deals expire, or fresh sales.
Georginio Wijnaldum was the biggest name to leave at the end of his loan agreement, while Mady Camara and Diego Llorente left for the same reason. Cristian Volpato was sold to Sassuolo, and Carles Perez’s loan at Celta Vigo became permanent.
There was something of a shock for the club when Nemanja Matic announced his attention to leave, joining Stade Rennes. Talented youngster Giacomo Faticanti also left on a permanent deal for Lecce.
