AC Milan could only manage a 1-1 draw against Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium in Sunday evening’s Serie A clash.
It was overall a poor game but Ruslan Malinovskyi opened the scoring in the first half with a powerful deflected effort.
Ismael Bennacer got the equaliser with a superb finish with just over 20 minutes to go.
Neither team had looked particularly dangerous in the opening exchanges but Milan certainly had more of the ball.
It was Atalanta who got the scoring underway though in the 29th minute. Joachim Maehle’s pull-back to the edge of the box found Malinovskyi in lots of space.
He hit a first-time shot that deflected off Pierre Kalulu and over Mike Maignan.
The game struggled to find any real rhythm but Bennacer came up with an uncharacteristically good finish after beating his man in the box in the 68th minute.
It was Milan who were applying all of the pressure to try and get a winning goal but the substitutes did not gel and the attack looked disjointed.
Both teams now sit on four points having won their opening game of the season.
