AS Roma face an unexpected battle for the final Champions League qualification spot when they take on high-flying Bologna at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on Matchday 16 of Serie A.

The Giallorossi sit in fourth place but are only one spot ahead of their opponents and are level on 25 points, having earned a 1-1 draw against Fiorentina last time out despite finishing the match with nine men.

Bologna, meanwhile, have been in superb form and have only suffered a single defeat since August, as they challenge for a European qualification spot.

Bologna vs AS Roma: Predicted line-ups

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma are still waiting on the return to fitness of Tammy Abraham, Marash Kumbulla, and Chris Smalling, whilst Paulo Dybala and Sardar Azmoun miss out after sustaining injuries against Fiorentina.

Gianluca Mancini should recover from a knock in time to take his place in the starting line-up, whilst Andrea Belotti is expected to replace the suspended Romelu Lukaku in attack, after his red card against the Viola. Nicola Zalewski also serves a suspension after being dismissed in that draw.

Bologna are in the midst of an injury crisis, with Riccardo Orsolini, Lorenzo De Silvestri, and Kevin Bonifazi all ruled out, joining Adama Soumaoro, Jesper Karlsson, Tommaso Corazza and Oussama El Azzouzi in the treatment room.

Roma centre-back Mancini is one booking away from suspension, whilst Bologna’s Michel Aebischer will also face a ban should he pick up a yellow card in the match.

Bologna predicted XI vs AS Roma (4-2-3-1): Skorupski; Posch, Lucumi, Calafiori, Lykogiannis; Aebischer, Freuler; Ndoye, Ferguson, Saelemaekers; Zirkzee.

AS Roma predicted XI vs Bologna (3-5-2): Rui Patricio; Mancini, Llorente, Ndicka; Karsdorp, Cristante, Paredes, Pellegrini, Spinazzola; Belotti, El Shaarawy.
