The Italy Men’s National Team has managed to qualify for the 2024 European Championships thanks to their nervy 0-0 draw with Ukraine at the BayArena in Germany on Monday night.
The Azzurri knew that a draw would be enough to secure second place in Group C and stop them from having to do a two-legged play-off to reach the tournament. A win for Ukraine would have seen them leapfrog Italy into second place.
The main point of drama in the game came with just two minutes of stoppage time to go, as Mykhailo Mudryk seemed to be tripped in the box by Bryan Cristante. The referee didn’t give it and wasn’t asked to go to the monitor, but it caused quite a stir on social media.
To chat through the draw and where this Italy team stands as it heads to a major tournament, Euan Burns is joined by Kev Pogorzelksi and Vito Doria.
