The Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League all returned this midweek and Serie A’s representatives enjoyed a mixed bag of results, with just three of the seven sides able to win but no losses suffered.
Both Napoli and AS Roma made relatively hard work of their respective wins, with the Partenopei needing a late SC Braga own goal to win in their Champions League opener, while Roma edged Sheriff in the Europa League. Atalanta, too, had a trickier night than they might have expected against Rakow Czestochowa.
Lazio, Inter and AC Milan got Champions League draws, with the highlight of those games being Aquile goalkeeper Ivan Provedel scoring a late equaliser against Atletico Madrid. Fiorentina also drew with Genk in the Europa Conference League.
