Juventus will play Cagliari on Serie A Matchday 33, and both Massimiliano Allegri and Claudio Ranieri will face teams that they coached previously.

Juventus will travel to Sardinia to play Cagliari at the Unipol Domus on Serie A Matchday 33, and the coaches of the respective clubs will be facing their former employers.

Bianconeri tactician Massimiliano Allegri made his coaching breakthrough with the Sardinians, taking charge from 2008 to 2010, before winning many trophies at AC Milan and Juve. Meanwhile, his Isolani counterpart Claudio Ranieri coached La Vecchia Signora from 2007 to 2009.

The veteran tactician will arguably be the more buoyant of the two currently after Cagliari held Serie A leaders Inter to a 2-2 draw in their latest match. Earning a point in that match was remarkable, considering who they faced, and crucial as they are in 14th place and four points above the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Juventus are comfortably positioned in third place on 63 points, but they have won just two out of their last 11 Serie A games and they were held to a scoreless draw against city rivals Torino. The Bianconeri have the second-best defence in the division, having conceded 24 goals, but they have found the back of the net just 45 times, a paltry tally compared to Inter’s 77.

Can Juventus scrape a win on the road, or will Ranieri and his Cagliari spring another surprise?

Cagliari vs Juventus: Predicted line-ups

Nahitan Nandez and Alessandro Deiola return from suspensions for Cagliari, but Alberto Dossena and Zito Luvumbo are at risk of being suspended if they receive a yellow card each. Marco Mancosu, Andrea Petagna, and Leonardo Pavoletti will be missing due to injury.

Ranieri could potentially implement the 4-3-2-1 formation, moving away from the back three formation that he used against Inter. Despite their performances against the Nerazzurri, experienced midfielder Nicolas Viola and the mercurial Luvumbo are not expected to start against Juve. However, ‘The Tinkerman’ could start Gianluca Gaetano in an attacking midfielder role despite not featuring against the Biscione.

Meanwhile, Juventus will miss Arkadiusz Milik because of a muscular injury whereas Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli are serving their respective bans. Despite the lack of goals against Torino, Allegri will probably keep the same starting line-up that featured in the Derby della Mole including forwards Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa.
