Chelsea transfers: Todd Boehly’s Blues interested in Osimhen, Lautaro and other Serie A strikers for summer moves

Chelsea are being linked with a whole host of players around Europe right now, and four of them are strikers from Serie A clubs. Which four players in Italy are the Premier League side weighing up a move for?

Since the 2020/2021 season, Chelsea have spent an astronomical amount on forwards. From Kai Havertz to Timo Werner, it seems as though the Blues can’t get their hands on a quality No.9 regardless of the price.

After the disappointments of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Romelu Lukaku, the Blues are again starting a transfer window searching for a new striker. With their favourite targets operating within Serie A.

Chelsea transfers: Which Serie A forwards are the Blues looking to sign?

Lautaro Martinez – Inter

Chelsea have already scheduled talks with Inter regarding Andre Onana, with Lukaku also being a subject of these talks, though prospects of him in a Chelsea shirt seem bleak. However, Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of his fellow Argentine Lautaro Martinez and plans to enquire about the possibility of him moving to West London.

Lautaro has played a vital role in Inter’s recent successes, scoring 25 or more goals across all competitions in each of his last two seasons under Simone Inzaghi. As a result, he has established himself as one of the best strikers in the division, if not in Europe.

Inter’s stance is clear though, they will not sell him unless a very handsome offer is sent. Last month, vice president Javier Zanetti was quoted saying: “He’s a reference point for the team. He is so important to us.”

Victor Osimhen – Napoli

Where to start with Victor Osimhen? The Nigerian has well and truly set Serie A alight this season. His talent was evident after his showing at the Under-17 World Cup in 2015 where he won the golden boot award, and now it seems that he can still keep improving.

In all competitions, the striker has scored 31 goals from 38 appearances, outperforming his xG by five goals. The 24-year-old can seemingly do it all, proving to be a dominant force inside the box, whilst also being a prominent feature of Napoli’s high press this season.

Napoli are firm on their asking price though, a fee of more than €100 million will be needed to relocate the Super Eagles striker this summer. However, some reports suggest that Osimhen will not consider signing a new contract at the club, given the interest from several European superpowers this summer.

Rasmus Hojlund – Atalanta

Unlike the previous two on this list, this has been Rasmus Hojlund’s breakout season at Atalanta, but even then his statistics aren’t groundbreaking with 14 players outscoring the Danish international in Serie A. Instead, his suitors took interest over the course of the March international period, when he scored five times across two games. The move would be based on potential.

Hojlund is very capable both inside and outside of the final third, with it not being uncommon to see him dropping deeper to receive the ball. Another benefit is his time playing in a strike partnership. He likely wouldn’t have a problem being a creative outlet for Chelsea’s wingers or being the man to finish chances provided by them.

Hojlund is by far the biggest gamble that Chelsea could take on this list, given he hasn’t consistently shown his ability. However, the 20-year-old still has a very high ceiling and would cost much less than others on this list, which could prove the difference-maker for Chelsea given their rumoured Financial Fair Play limitations this summer.

Dusan Vlahovic – Juventus

The Blues are also testing the waters of a potential move for Dusan Vlahovic, with the Serbian reportedly unhappy with his situation at Juventus, partly due to Massimiliano Allegri’s defensive tactics.

With the Old Lady not in the Champions League next season, reports suggest that the club needs to raise €100m to balance the books. As a result, they may have to part ways with the 23-year-old, although Chelsea are keen on a player+cash deal involving at least one of five players, those being: Christian Pulisic, Trevoh Chalobah, Romelu Lukaku, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

This, however, could push Vlahovic towards a move elsewhere. Moves involving more than one player are often much more complicated from a financial perspective and can drag on long into the summer.
