With the Champions League returning, Chelsea v AC Milan will be one of the crucial fixtures of Matchday 3 when they face off at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, with the 2021 winners bottom of Group E with just one point from two games.

After recording their first victory of the group stage against Dinamo Zagreb last time out, the Rossoneri sit on top of the standings and, with back-to-back fixtures against the Premier League club, have a wonderful opportunity to take control and push their rivals closer to elimination from Europe’s premier competition.

Chelsea v AC Milan: Predicted line-ups

Both sides will be without first-choice goalkeepers on Wednesday night, although AC Milan’s Mike Maignan has a better chance of recovering from a calf injury than Chelsea custodian Edouard Mendy, who is out with a knee complaint. However, the 2021 UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year has displayed a significant drop in form in recent weeks.

A bigger headache for new coach Graham Potter is replacing midfield dynamo N’Golo Kante (thigh injury), given the strength of the Serie A side in that area. Although they are unlikely to be without Sandro Tonali, who missed the visit to Empoli at the weekend.

Chelsea predicted XI v AC Milan (4-2-3-1): Kepa; James, Silva, Azpilicueta, Cucurella; Jorginho, Kovacic; Mount, Havertz, Sterling; Aubameyang.

AC Milan predicted XI v Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Tatarusanu, Dest, Tomori, Kalulu, Ballo; Krunic, Bennacer; Saelemaekers, De Ketelaere, Leao; Giroud.
