Bayern Munich and Premier League clubs target Federico Chiesa: Where has it gone wrong at Juventus?

Not so long ago, Federico Chiesa was one of the hottest talents in Europe. Now, he could be shipped out by Juventus with Bayern Munich and the Premier League watching closely.

Juventus winger Federico Chiesa could be sold in the summer, and German giants Bayern Munich are favoured to beat any competition from the Premier League for his signature for the moment.

The 25-year-old has been with the Bianconeri since the summer of 2020, but a major knee injury in January 2022 has hindered his progress at the club. Despite battling with fitness issues and poor form throughout the 2022/23 season, the Italy international still has admirers from other clubs.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Chiesa wants a yearly salary of €8 million if he was to sign a contract extension with Juventus. He is currently earning €5m per season, and he is contracted until June 2025, but La Vecchia Signora do not want to make extravagant increases in salaries considering the impact of the capital gains investigation.

The demands from Chiesa’s agent

In addition to the capital gains investigation and missing out on the revenue from qualifying for the Champions League, Juventus are not prepared to give Chiesa a wage increase based on his performances since recovering from his injury to the left knee.

His agent, Fali Ramadani, claims that the Italian winger was meant to be one of the stars of the team and he should earn as much as the biggest earners. Paul Pogba currently earns the most money at Juve with a yearly wage of €8m plus €2m in bonuses while Dusan Vlahovic is not too far behind.

Chiesa’s wages are not the only reason why he would want to leave this summer. His relationship with Bianconeri coach Massimiliano Allegri and his staff has been strained, and the lack of Champions League football gives him little incentive to stay.

Bayern Munich favourites to sign Chiesa

Interested buyers can offer Chiesa lucrative wages, Champions League football, and the opportunity to operate in a system that can bring the best out of his creative talents. The starting price to sign the Italy international is €40m and Bayern Munich are eager to sign him.

The Bavarians did not win the Bundesliga title as comprehensively as they did in previous years, only triumphing over Borussia Dortmund on goal difference. A fit Chiesa would add pace on the wings as well as an additional goal threat.

English clubs would not be overwhelmed by that price tag either and Chelsea had been linked with the 25-year-old in the past. With Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech expected to leave, the Italian winger would be a potential upgrade.

Juventus fans have not seen the best of Chiesa when wearing their jersey. Considering the issues regarding his wages and his inability to thrive under Allegri’s conservative tactics, his future could be away from Turin.
