Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries insists that the club are aiming to regain the Serie A title this season, having lost out to bitter rivals AC Milan on the final day last term. It comes with the Nerazzurri languishing in seventh place over the international break and due to face AS Roma on Saturday.
In an interview with De Telegraaf in his homeland, the Netherlands international touched on the disappointment of missing out on the Scudetto in May, after Inter had ended an 11-year wait for a league title in 2021.
“We want to win the Scudetto that we lost last season, even today the bitterness of missing out on it is still felt and burns a lot,” the former PSV Eindhoven player declared.
Meanwhile, Dumfries was adamant that he wanted to concentrate on his football at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, despite suggestions that Premier League outfit Manchester United were amongst the suitors looking at him.
“It is flattering to be linked with big clubs but I am only focused on Inter,” the 26-year-old added.
World Cup beckons for Dumfries
Dumfries has scored seven goals in 54 appearances for Inter across all competitions since arriving last summer and helped the club win the Coppa Italia in his maiden campaign.
A former Aruba international, he is expected to be involved in the Netherlands’ World Cup campaign in Qatar later this year, having earned 37 caps for the Oranje.
