Dybala’s AS Roma future: Mourinho staying a factor with Real Madrid & Manchester United linked

Paulo Dybala has thrived in his debut season at AS Roma but his decision to commit his future to the Giallorossi is believed to be linked to that of coach Jose Mourinho.

The future of Paulo Dybala at AS Roma could well be dependent on coach Jose Mourinho remaining at the Stadio Olimpico beyond the end of the season, with the Giallorossi at risk of losing two of their biggest assets.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via Tuttomercatoweb), Dybala has a release clause in the contract he penned upon joining Roma last summer and could leave the club for just €12 million.

The clause is only valid to clubs outside of Italy, but with reported interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United, there is concern in the capital that Roma could lose their star man cheaply.

The summer signing from Juventus would also be able to speak to other Serie A clubs should they meet a separate €20m release clause, with Inter previously showing interest in Dybala.

AS Roma hopeful of Dybala commitment

Despite only being into the first year of a contract that runs until 2025, Roma are ready to propose a new deal to Dybala and reward him for his fine form in his debut campaign, in which he has netted 15 goals and laid on eight assists in all competitions.

Indeed, the World Cup-winning Argentina international is on course to enjoy his most productive season since 2017-18, in which he netted 26 goals for Juventus.

Dybala is expecting improved terms if he is to commit his future to the Giallorossi though, whilst Roma are yet to open up talks over a new deal despite some optimism that the 29-year-old has settled and is enjoying life in Rome.

It is thought that the Lupi would need to secure qualification for the Champions League next season in order to retain Dybala though, regardless of any other conditions.

The Mourinho factor

A significant determinant in Dybala pledging his future to Roma is thought to be the motivations of Mourinho, though, with the coach instrumental in convincing the forward to make the move as a free agent last summer.

The former Inter and Real Madrid coach is close to completing his second season at Roma and is contracted for another year, but has been linked with a return to Chelsea or to take the helm at Paris Saint-Germain.

Roma are hopeful that Mourinho will commit his future to the club and with it, Dybala will also decide to remain, with the player thriving under the Portuguese tactician this season.
