Atalanta were able to successfully put their first loss of the season behind them in Serie A Matchday 12 as they went away to Empoli and left Tuscany with all three points and a convincing 2-0 win in Sunday’s early kick-off.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side lost 2-0 at home to Lazio in Matchday 11 in what was their first and only defeat of the 2022/23 season so far, and a lot of people were wondering how the Bergamaschi would react to their first setback of the campaign.

Hans Hateboer put the Nerazzurri ahead in the first half with what was his first goal in two years for Atalanta – having missed a considerable portion of that through injury – and Teun Koopmeiners saw a penalty saved by Guglielmo Vicario before half-time as well.

La Dea kept going after the break and Ademola Lookman made it 2-0 with his fourth goal in five games to continue his own fine form. Duvan Zapata thought he had scored his first of the season as well only for it to be ruled out for offside as Lookman had strayed before teeing up the Colombian forward.
