In what was far from a vintage Inter display, Simone Inzaghi‘s Nerazzurri got over the line to beat an improved Empoli on Serie A Matchday 5. Not having things all their own way, it is the sort of result that could be pivotal later in the season.
Inter, as expected, were on top throughout the game, though only scored once from 23 attempts on goal and that goal came from a sublime volley from Federico Dimarco. Furthermore, from those 23 attempts, only six were on target, which could open questions about the side’s proficiency.

Inter’s 100% record in Serie A is still intact, which bodes well given they already have a three-point gap ahead of second-placed AC Milan. Inzaghi‘s side were expected to win comfortably against the Azzurri, yet not doing so isn’t going to make or break their season.
After sacking Paolo Zanetti earlier this week to bring Aurelio Andreazzoli back, it offers some hope of improvement for Empoli that things could get better after limiting the scudetto favourites to just a single goal.
