Empoli vs AS Roma: Preview, kick-off time and where to watch on TV and online – Serie A 2023/24

Empoli are staring down the barrel of relegation from Serie A and anything less than a win over AS Roma in Matchday 38 may not be enough to keep them in the top flight.

AS Roma see out the Serie A season with a trip to relegation-threatened Empoli in Matchday 38 at the Stadio Carlo Castellani, and anything less than a win for the hosts could see them go down.

Empoli currently occupy the final place in the drop zone and are one point behind Udinese and two behind Frosinone, though their relegation rivals face off against each other on the final day. Should Empoli defeat Roma, they would leapfrog Udinese (or Frosinone if the Zebrette win), whilst a draw coupled with an Udinese defeat would set up a play-off match.

Roma, meanwhile, are guaranteed sixth place and have little to play for, but coach Daniele De Rossi will be looking to end the campaign on a high ahead of his first full season at the helm.

Empoli vs AS Roma: Predicted line-ups

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma are set to turn to Tammy Abraham to lead the line in attack, flanked by Stephan El Shaarawy and Paulo Dybala, though Tommaso Baldanzi may feature against his former club.

Gianluca Mancini is expected to return to the heart of defence in place of Diego Llorente, whilst Nicola Zalewski may step into midfield alongside Bryan Cristante and Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Leandro Paredes serves a suspension after being shown a red card against Genoa last time out, whilst Romelu Lukaku is also banned due to an accumulation of yellow cards. Leonardo Spinazzola is the only injury concern for De Rossi.

Empoli‘s hopes of survival rest on forwards Matteo Cancellieri and Nicolo Cambiaghi, whilst Emmanuel Gyasi and Giuseppe Pezzella look to provide service from the flanks.

Tyrone Ebuehi, Etrit Berisha, and Alberto Cerri are all ruled out through injury, whilst midfielder Alberto Grassi is suspended after being sent off in the 105th minute of Empoli‘s crushing late draw against Udinese last time out.

Empoli predicted XI vs AS Roma (3-5-2): Caprile; Bereszynski, Ismajli, Luperto; Gyasi, Marin, Bastoni, Maleh, Pezzella; Cambiaghi, Cancellieri.

AS Roma predicted XI vs Empoli (4-3-3): Svilar; Kristensen, Mancini, Ndicka, Angelino; Cristante, Pellegrini, Zalewski; Dybala, Abraham, El Shaarawy.
