It was another mixed night of results for Serie A’s representatives in the Europa League and Europa Conference League, but there was more good than bad as AS Roma and Fiorentina both picked up straightforward home wins. Elsewhere, Atalanta could only pick up a point on the road.

Slavia Praha were no match for the Giallorossi in the Europa League, even with Jose Mourinho absent from the sidelines through suspension, and they raced into an early lead that was never at risk of slipping. Fiorentina enjoyed a similarly bright start as they beat Cukaricki in the Conference League.

Atalanta, meanwhile, had come from behind to lead at SK Sturm Graz but could only return from Austria with a point after conceding a late penalty.

Romelu Lukaku‘s love affair with the Europa League continued with AS Roma as the Belgian was once again on target as they beat Slavia Praha 2-0.

His strike came after Edoardo Bove netted a stunning opener inside a minute of kick-off, and it was the 14th consecutive Europa League appearance in which Lukaku managed to find the net.

Roma remain top of Group G with nine points and a perfect 100% record in the Europa League, with Slavia second on six points.

Atalanta slip up against 10 men in Graz, but Muriel continues to find form

Despite falling behind away to Sk Sturm Graz, Luis Muriel‘s 2023/24 rebirth continued for Atalanta and the Colombian no.9 scored a fine equaliser and converted a penalty deep into first-half stoppage time to send La Dea in at the break ahead.

But the second half saw that lead slip again, despite the hosts going down to 10 players when captain Stefan Hierlander was shown a second yellow card, a late penalty allowed the Austrian side to level through Szymon Wlodarczyk. The game ended 2-2.

Beyond Muriel scoring twice, there was another nice note for the Nerazzurri as former player Josip Ilicic made the trip over the border from Maribor to watch his old side in action.

Atalanta remain top of Europa League Group D with seven points, three ahead of Sporting Clube de Portugal.

Fiorentina stroll to victory over Cukaricki

Fiorentina made light work of Cukaricki at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, with goals from Lucas Beltran (two) and Jonathan Ikone having them three goals to the good inside 30 minutes. They won 6-0 in the end.

The visitors’ night was made even worse when Luka Subotic was sent off before half time, meaning Vincenzo Italiano‘s side were able to take their foot off the gas somewhat ahead of a tough Serie A fixture list that sees them face Lazio and Juventus in back-to-back games.

Riccardo Sottil and Lucas Martinez Quarta did add to their tally in the second half. Maxime Lopez complete the scoring with their sixth.

The win is Fiorentina‘s first in three Europa Conference League games this season, but leaves them top of Group F with five points.
