FIFA/Coca Cola Women’s World Rankings change after 2023 World Cup: Where do Italy rank?

The Italy Women’s National Team had a 2023 Women’s World Cup to forget, and the latest FIFA/Coca Cola Women’s World Rankings have seen the Azzurre’s position change.

The 2023 Women’s World Cup was a brilliant tournament from start to finish as a neutral, but the Italy Women’s National Team had yet another summer to forget. Following the disaster that was the 2022 Women’s European Championship, the Azzurre were again eliminated in the group stage after suffering another hammering in the process.

Italy had travelled to Australia and New Zealand as the 16th-ranked national team in the world, and they would have expected to qualify from a group that consisted of Sweden, South Africa and Argentina. In the end, it was South Africa who progressed alongside an excellent Sweden side, with Italy losing to the African nation in their final group game when a draw would have seen the Azzurre advance.

Where do Italy rank in the FIFA/Coca Cola Women’s World Rankings?

Despite Serie A Femminile becoming a fully-professional league from the 2022/23 season on, Italian women’s football has a long way to go before the Italy Women’s National Team will be troubling the sides at the top of the rankings.

In the summer of 2022, Italy were ranked in 15th place, and they then fell to 16th before the beginning of the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Now, after another disappointing tournament, the Azzurre have dropped down another place and are 17th in the FIFA/Coca Cola Women’s World Rankings
