Hellas Verona 2-1 AS Roma: Goals, highlights and report – Serie A 2023/24

Hellas Verona's impressive start to the season continued as they secured a 2-1 win over a lacklustre AS Roma, despite finishing the match with 10 men.

AS Roma‘s underwhelming start to the Serie A season continued as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to 10-man Hellas Verona at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi on Saturday.

Verona raced into the lead when Ondrej Duda tapped in after just four minutes, before Cyril Ngonge covered the length of Roma‘s half before cutting in and doubling the hosts’ advantage. Houssem Aouar dragged Roma back into it with a close-range header, and whilst Isak Hien was sent off late on, the Lupi couldn’t find a way back.

The defeat leaves Roma languishing in 13th place on a single point, whilst Verona join AC Milan at the top of the table with six points from their first two games.
