AC Milan 0-2 Chelsea: Goals, highlights and report – Champions League 2022/23

AC Milan suffered another defeat against Chelsea as they were beaten 2-0 at San Siro and saw Fikayo Tomori controversially sent off early in the game.

AC Milan suffered a second consecutive defeat against Chelsea in the Champions League as they were beaten 2-0 in controversial circumstances at the Stadio San Siro.

The major flashpoint was Fikayo Tomori’s dubious red card after 18 minutes which also led to Jorginho scoring from the penalty spot. The second goal came from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before halftime.

The match had a very exciting and competitive feel to it and the atmosphere at San Siro was everything that Stefano Pioli and his players would have hoped for.

That was all shattered in the 18th minute when the Premier League side were awarded a penalty and Tomori was sent off after he was adjudged to have dragged Mason Mount down in the box.

Replays showed that it was an extremely harsh decision on the former Chelsea defender who left the field enraged. The penalty was taken by Italy midfielder Jorginho and he calmly slotted it into the bottom corner having had a long time to wait.

After Olivier Giroud had missed a wonderful headed chance to make it 1-1, the game effectively came to an end when Aubameyang finished off a slick move from Chelsea to make it 2-0 before the break.

Damage limitation for AC Milan

The main aim for Milan in the second half must have been to keep the score down and see what they could steal at the other end. For a team playing almost the whole game with 10 players, the Rossoneri put in a decent display.

The likes of Rafael Leao continued to do all they could to make things happen in attack, whilst the defence focused on keeping Chelsea’s tally at two.

The defeat for Milan leaves them third in the group on four points. Chelsea are top with seven having beaten the Rossoneri twice, whilst RB Salzburg are second with six. In keeping with how tight the group is, Dinamo Zagreb are level on points with Milan.
