Inter are set to pay Alexis Sanchez €5 million in severance pay in order to break his contract and get him off of the wage bill.
The Chilean forward has been destined to leave for much of the summer but has been waiting to have a new club lined up before leaving.
As has been reported by the print edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport today, the Nerazzurri are extremely close to an agreement with Sanchez and his agent to pay €5m. That figure takes in some suspended wages from the COVID-19-affected 2020/21 season.
He still has one year left to run on his current contract but when it is so clear that Inter want to offload him, no club will pay a transfer fee for him. That is why the contract has to be broken with the player compensated. The existing deal sees him earn €7m per season.
An announcement could come as soon as Friday afternoon on the termination.
Sanchez set to join Marseille
Once the contract has been terminated, the player is set to join Ligue 1 side Marseille. He will earn €3m a season whilst with the French side.
The fact that he will be able to play Champions League football there is a major draw and that desire to play at the top level stopped him from accepting many other offers.
