Inter transfers: How Brozovic’s potential Saudi Pro League or Barcelona move could influence the race for Frattesi

Marcelo Brozovic could be on his way to the Saudi Pro League, although Barcelona is another option. Should he depart, it could have a profound affect on the battle for Sassuolo's Davide Frattesi.

This transfer window will likely be remembered for the emergence of the Saudi Arabian clubs’ large bids in the market, and it seems as though Inter will be the next to receive a large fee.

It is known that the Nerazzurri need funds in order to improve their squad this season and selling the ageing Marcelo Brozovic, who hasn’t been quite so key this season, could be very smart business.

It would make sense because it directly feeds into Inter’s other ambitions during the transfer window.

Brozovic’s potential departure this window has been known for some time. There has been considerable interest in the Croatian from several European clubs, with Newcastle United and Barcelona being the main suitors for large periods of time.

However, it looks likely that the 30-year-old will be moving to Asia. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter look set to agree a fee for the player worth around €23 million. Whilst this provides a large cash injection for the side, it also removes the salary of Brozovic from the books, who currently earns around €13m per season gross.

The Blaugrana still remain interested, with Xavi supposedly a big fan of the player. They wouldn’t be able to compete with the financial package that Al-Nassr are offering, with talks suggesting the midfielder will receive a contract worth around €20m per season.

That being said, the interest from Barcelona does seem to be ramping up and Brozovic may want even more money to head to Saudi Arabia. Barcelona are not expected to be able to match Al-Nassr’s transfer fee for Brozovic, so the deal could rumble on.

With Inter planning for the departure of Brozovic for some time it has given the club a while to plan for his replacement. The favourite is Davide Frattesi, and it seems as though the club will pounce soon for the Italian.

Due to Sassuolo’s asking price the 23-year-old being around the €40m mark, it has made Inter’s ability to send a respectful bid impossible, due to the club’s heavily reported financial situation this summer.

Inter may be able to reduce the asking price by including young players in the deal, Samuel Mulattieri looks certain to be included in the deal, with the Neroverdi being huge fans of the player. As a result, the price of Frattesi may be reduced to €35m.

Inter aren’t the only interested party this summer with Juventus also making contact with Sassuolo to speak only about the possibilities of a deal for the Italian. AC Milan also want Frattesi to replace Sandro Tonali who is going to Newcastle.

Nonetheless, the Nerrazzurri have no reason to fear, with the midfielder promising himself to the club according to La Gazzetta dello Sport’s recent reports, largely due to his preference being to stay in Italy.

Simone Inzaghi sees the youngster as a great candidate to join his squad for many reasons; firstly due to his age and his ability, and secondly with the youngster’s desire to learn and improve. He is also a known fan of Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella.
