Inter transfers: Inzaghi and Marotta set to finalise summer plans featuring Onana, Sommer and Carlos Augusto

Inter have got a lot of plates to juggle this summer in the transfer window, so Simone Inzaghi and Beppe Marotta have been finalising which players they will pursue and who could be heading out the door.

Inter’s Champions League wounds are still open and fresh after the Nerazzurri put up an
admirable fight in Istanbul against Manchester City before Rodri’s goal unravelled their hard work in the 68th minute.

The 1-0 defeat to Man City perhaps aches that little bit more for Simone Inzaghi’s men as they’ll collectively know the chances to remain in or even win the game were there.

Inter tallied an XG of 2.07, more than doubling Manchester City’s 0.95, but the luck wasn’t with Inzaghi in Turkey. The Nerazzurri hierarchy will now reportedly look to put the final defeat behind them, and focus on a successful summer window.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Inter are preparing for a market summit that will see Inzaghi and CEO Beppe Marotta finalise their transfer market plans.

Sommer or Vicario to replace Onana at Inter

The first item on Inzaghi’s and Marotta’s agenda will be to understand who will stay leading into the 2023/34 campaign. Inter consider Andre Onana their cash cow in the transfer market this summer.

It’s understood that Chelsea have been courting the Cameroonian for some time now, however, after an exceptional season, Inter now value their skilled shot-stopper at €70 million.

Chelsea and Inter have already scheduled talks regarding the future of Romelu Lukaku, so one could only expect a potential deal for Onana to be discussed in addition.

Should the 27-year-old exit the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza this summer, Inzaghi and Marotta have been discussing their ideal replacement. The long-term target for Inter’s next goalkeeper is Guglielmo Vicario, who claimed seven clean sheets for a mid-table Empoli side in Serie A last season.

However, another name has come back into fashion as the curtains are drawn on the 2022/23 campaign, and that’s Bayern Munich’s Yann Sommer. Inter had the Swiss goalkeeper on their shortlist in January, however, Bayern Munich bought the player following an injury to Manuel Neuer. It’s understood that Sommer has a desire not to be a backup option next season, therefore Inter are following his situation closely.

A replacement for Robin Gosens

Although Inter are looking to take advantage of a player being unsettled elsewhere in Sommer, they also have an unsettled player of their own on the books. Robin Gosens, has been seeking a move elsewhere after being displaced by Federico Dimarco on Inter’s left flank.

The versatile German is likely to exit Inter this summer as he seeks more playing time, and the Nerazzurri are looking to cash in on the 28-year-old and bring in a replacement to offer a good alternative to Dimarco.

One player highly tipped with a move to Inter is Carlos Augusto, who has impressed for 11th-placed Monza this past season. Augusto has been described as a revelation this past campaign, with his speed and ability to score and assist, the Nerazzurri believe Augusto’s engine would be well suited on their left flank.
