Andre Onana has been linked with a move away from Inter just one year after he joined the Italian giants and Chelsea are reportedly interested in luring him to the English Premier League.
The 26-year-old arrived in Milan on a free transfer from Dutch giants Ajax and swiftly managed to displace veteran goalkeeper Samir Handanovic, producing many fine performances throughout the 2022/23 campaign.
However, Inter might consider selling the Cameroon international to keep the books in balance. Although he admitted to being happy with the Nerazzurri, he hinted that his future in Italy was not necessarily in his hands and there’s every chance that he won’t be at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza by the time the 2023/24 Serie A season kicks off.
Onana ambiguous about his future
Onana featured in Inter’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League final on Saturday evening, and he was proud of his teammates for going as far as they did in the competition.
“We believed in ourselves and we were very close to touching glory,” Onana posted on his personal Instagram account. “We didn’t touch glory but we touched the hearts of all Inter fans. We must be proud of the season we experienced together.”
However, he remained coy about his future at club.
“I do not know, the truth is that I am happy here then at certain levels you never know how it can go,” Onana told Sky Sport Italia (via calciomercato.com).
“I have no problems with the Nerazzurri, I am at their disposal. I will do what they tell me.”
Chelsea and Manchester City show interest in Onana
According to calciomercato.com, Inter want at least €40 million for Onana, and he would represent a high-value capital gain considering that he arrived in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer.
Chelsea have shown the most interest in the Nerazzurri goalkeeper, and the Blues might include former Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly in a loan deal. If the Italians renew their loan of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, the West Londoners could also lower the fee on that deal as well.
Manchester City are also interested and Citizens coach Pep Guardiola is an admirer of Onana. However, it is unlikely that Ederson will leave any time soon, and the Cameroonian might not be guaranteed playing time whereas he could displace Kepa Arrizabalaga at Chelsea.
