Inter’s Curva Nord sends warning to Juan Cuadrado after Juventus past: Why is he so unpopular?

The signing of Juan Cuadrado from Juventus has not gone down well with Inter supporters and ultras have issued a warning to the Colombia international before welcoming him to the club.

Inter announced the signing of wing-back Juan Cuadrado after his release from bitter rivals Juventus, but the move has certainly not gone down well with the Nerazzurri’s ultras.

The Colombia international ended an eight-year stint in Turin this summer after Juventus did not offer him a contract extension, with Cuadrado opting to remain in Serie A by penning a one-year deal at Inter.

However, as reported by La Repubblica and via, negotiations and the subsequent signing of the former Chelsea and Fiorentina player have led to widespread anger amongst Inter fans, whilst the confirmation of the signing led to ultras demanding a face-to-face meeting with Cuadrado.

Inter fans offer olive branch to Cuadrado?

Representatives of Inter‘s Curva Nord have reached out to the club to express their concerns over the arrival of the 35-year-old after a bitter relationship with Inter during his time at Juventus.

The ultras have been assuaged following discussions with Inter, with the tactical benefits of bringing Cuadrado in leading to supporters dropping plans to protest against the signing of the Colombian.

Despite this, the ultras are determined to meet the ex-Fiorentina player in order to make clear the club’s values to him before he is welcomed as an Inter player by the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza faithful.

Supporters have looked to cool the rift by displaying a banner aimed at Cuadrado, reading: “Until today, you have done everything to make yourself hated. If you want something else, it is up to you to prove it.”

Why is Cuadrado so unpopular with Inter fans?

The signing of any player from direct rivals Juventus rarely goes down completely smoothly at Inter, with the relationship between the two clubs on either side of the Derby d’Italia divide deteriorating in recent years.

However, Cuadrado has done more than others to infuriate Inter supporters, with his behaviour in the first leg of last season’s Coppa Italia semi-final at the core of the anger towards him.

Having fired Juventus into the lead late on, Cuadrado was embroiled in a brawl after Inter equalised deep into stoppage time at the Allianz Stadium in April, and was shown a straight red card for punching Nerazzurri captain and stalwart Samir Handanovic.
