Inter got their hands on the Supercoppa Italiana on Wednesday evening as they humiliated city rivals AC Milan 3-0 in a special edition of the Derby della Madonnina that had silverware on the line. Inter were in the Supercoppa as Coppa Italia winners from last season, while Milan were there as Serie A champions.
The game, played in Saudi Arabia, was never really a contest and Stefano Pioli could only watch on as his side failed to ever show up. Federico Dimarco, Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez got Inter’s goals on the night.

Inter’s bright start
Simone Inzaghi was afforded a relaxed evening after he saw his Inter side start in electric fashion. The Nerazzurri were alert from the first whistle, and they didn’t need long to go ahead and then put the game beyond Milan.
Nicolo Barella was particularly impressive in the first half, as was ex-Milan man Hakan Calhanoglu, and the Italian had a hand in setting up compatriot Dimarco to open the scoring. Bursting down the right, the all-action midfielder centred and the wing-back arrived at the back post to finish into a near-open goal.
Milan had no answer and, in truth, looked like shipping more goals. Sandro Tonali had a night to forget in midfield and he was sent to the shops as Dzeko turned him with ease before slotting home a second for Inter that was reminiscent of Olivier Giroud’s goal in last season’s Milan Derby that put the Rossoneri firmly in the driving seat in the Serie A title race.

No way back
From there, the game became damage limitation for Milan and they never looked likely to mount a comeback.
Lautaro Martinez made light work of Fikayo Tomori, shrugging off the Englishman before executing a delightful finish to put the icing on the cake of Inter’s win, continuing his good form in the process.
