Italy Player of the Match – Arianna Caruso

The Juventus Women’s midfielder struggled to impress in the previous two matches, but she almost made the difference against South Africa, finding the back of the net twice.
Chiara Beccari was fouled in the penalty area early in the match, and Caruso converted the spot-kick. In the second half, substitute Cristiana Girelli deflected a corner towards Caruso, and the midfield got a faint touch before the ball went into the net.
Despite her efforts, she was replaced by AS Roma midfielder Giada Greggi later in the game and Italy squandered their chance to qualify from Group G.
