Juventus get an early grip on the title race, but can Fiorentina and Sampdoria keep them at arm’s length?

Juventus asserted their dominance over AS Roma and AC Milan got off the mark against Sassuolo.

The table and the form of many teams was shaken up once again on Matchday 3 of Serie A Femminile as Juventus and AC Milan won.

There was more than once clash between the teams that are expected to be around the top of the table once things begin to settle down. Juventus took on AS Roma in Turin whilst Milan hosted Sassuolo.

Only two teams remain with a 100% record and they are not two that would have expected to be in that position.

Juventus get the better of AS Roma

There was some early pressure exerted on Juventus this season as they dropped points against Inter in their second game.

AS Roma meanwhile, had won their first two games and it seemed that there was a serious chance of the Bianconere being left five points behind their title rivals after just three games.

As has routinely become the case for this Juve team though, they made anyone who thought that may happen look naive. They managed to beat the Giallorosse 1-0 and took a big step towards the top of the table.

The goal came courtesy of Valentina Cernoia who is famed for her accurate shooting and ability to put in a perfect cross. These two attributes combined for the goal as her cross to the far post ended up looping over Camelia Ceasar and into the top corner.

It certainly wasn’t a shot, but she’s the sort of player where you could convince yourself that she meant to do it.

The task of mounting a comeback got a lot harder for Alessandro Spugna’s side when Manuela Giugliano was sent off for a second yellow. She pulled a player down in midfield and gave the referee no option.

Barring some decent efforts from distance, Juventus did not look like letting their lead slip. The attention for these two sides turns straight to the UEFA Women’s Champions League matches in midweek.

AC Milan leave Sassuolo pointless

The disappointing start to the Serie A Femminile season from Sassuolo continued as they were beaten away by AC Milan.

The Rossonere have not had a good start themselves but the situation looks much healthier now that they have beaten the Neroverdi 3-1. Maurizio Ganz seemed to finally get what he wants from his players as they finally looked more coherent in attack.

The scoring was opened in the second minute after a very good poachers’ finish from Valery Vigilucci. There was then a superb goal from Christy Grimshaw who has just returned from a very lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury.

She rounded Isabella Kresche over to the right of the penalty area and placed a low shot into the empty net which no defenders could reach.

A goal was pulled back early in the second half by Refiloe Jane but with nine minutes to go, Malgorzata Mesjasz sealed the three points for Milan who are now off the mark. Sassuolo meanwhile, remain on no points.

Inter, Sampdoria & Fiorentina all win again

The top three teams in Serie A Femminile after three games are Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Inter which is not what anyone expected. La Viola and Samp are the two teams who have won all three of their games as they beat Parma 2-1 and Como 1-0 respectively.

The confidence will be sky high in those squads and they will be desperate to keep the likes of Juventus and Roma behind them for as long as they can this season and try to end in the top half.

Inter recorded a big win as they beat Pomigliano 6-1. Ghoutia Karchouni scored yet another superb goal and Ajara Nchout got a couple to continue her great form. Rita Guarino’s side are on seven points and look much improved from last season.

The next Serie A Femminile fixtures

The action is back straight away as their is a full set of fixtures this weekend. It is a very good set too.

On Saturday, September 24, Sassuolo will host a Juventus side that has just played in the Champions League, Parma will welcome Milan to the Stadio Ennio Tardini and Roma will be against table-toppers Fiorentina.

On the Sunday, Pomigliano and Como will do battle in Campania whilst Sampdoria host Inter.
