Juventus sweat over fitness of Paul Pogba, whilst Saudi Pro League mega-offer remains on table

Since returning to Juventus from Manchester United in 2022, Paul Pogba has suffered from numerous injuries and the Frenchman is set to miss the start of the Serie A campaign.

Juventus are growing increasingly concerned over the fitness issues that are plaguing Paul Pogba, whilst the midfielder’s links to a move to Saudi Arabia refuse to go away.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, the France international is still recovering from a hamstring injury picked up in May and has only just returned to light training, with his preseason work hampered by the strain.

Pogba endured an injury-hit first season back at Juventus following a free transfer from Manchester United last year, and the Bianconeri are resigned to the fact that he will miss the start of the upcoming campaign too.

Asked about Pogba‘s fitness in a press conference in late July, coach Massimiliano Allegri admitted that the midfielder faced at least a further month on the side-lines before being available for selection.

Given Juventus kick off their Serie A campaign with a trip to Udinese on August 20, before the visit of Bologna the following Sunday, they will be without Pogba for the opening stretch of the season. Indeed, it is thought that he may not be fit until after the international break in mid-September.

Pogba missed most of last season with a knee injury sustained in July 2022 and underwent meniscus surgery in September, ruling him out of France’s World Cup campaign in Qatar.

The 30-year-old also picked up a groin strain and an adductor muscle injury prior to his latest setback, in which he was forced off against Cremonese in Serie A in his first start for over a year. Ultimately, the former Manchester United man was limited to just 10 appearances in all competitions, for a total of 161 minutes.

However, even if he does regain his fitness, Pogba may not be at Juventus for much longer amidst interest in him from Saudi Arabia. According to Tuttosport, the 2018 World Cup winner has long been a target for the newly powerful league and compatriots Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante are working to convince him to join them at Al Ittihad.

Currently, Pogba is determined to rebuild his fitness and prove himself at Juventus after such a successful first spell at the club from 2012 to 2016, but a switch to the Middle East has not been ruled out.

Indeed, Pogba has received a proposal worth €30 million per season from Al-Ittihad, far surpassing the €8m he earns at Juventus, whilst the Saudi transfer window remains open until September 20.
