Allegri hoping, Juventus aiming to beat Man Utd to Amrabat as other midfield targets flock elsewhere

Juventus' 2023 summer transfer window has hardly been a thriller, but Massimiliano Allegri knows that he needs some fresh legs in his midfield.

Massimiliano Allegri is keen to bolster the midfield at Juventus but with a number of targets heading to other teams, the coach has turned his attention to Manchester United target Sofyan Amrabat.

The squad at Juventus is certainly not finalised and the Bianconeri want to do a lot of business before the first Serie A fixture of the 2023/24 season rolls around.

A number of pursuits for players in various areas of the pitch have come to nothing, which means that Allegri‘s side is playing catchup and negotiating with players who are already close to joining other teams.

Fiorentina‘s Sofyan Amrabat has been linked with a number of big clubs ever since he helped take Morocco to the semi-finals of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, but a move in January 2023 did not materialise.

The rumours have been reignited in the summer of 2023 and the team that has looked the most likely to secure the midfielder is Manchester United. Amrabat has already said yes to that move, but negotiations have stalled as the Premier League side needs to sell one of Fred or Scott McToninay to ensure that a move for Amrabat does not over-inflate the midfield department.

Juventus think there is an opportunity there and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Allegri is in agreement with sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli over the move. They are yet to initiate talks with La Viola, though, as they were confident until a few days ago that Franck Kessie would be joining instead.

Fiorentina want €25m and bonuses for Amrabat which is not an easy figure for Juventus to reach, and they are aware that Man Utd could wrap up the transfer almost at any minute.

Juventus’ missed midfield targets

Whilst it was good news for Juventus that they managed to secure Adrien Rabiot for another season, they have missed out on a couple of targets who seemed destined for Turin.

It seemed that Sergej Milinkovic-Savic was finally going to get his move to a bigger European club than Lazio, and Juventus was going to be the destination, but then Al Hilal arrived and the money talked.

As for Kessie, he was very close to joining Juventus from Barcelona but then the Saudi Pro League stepped in again, with Al Ahli putting an offer on the table that the former AC Milan midfielder could not refuse.

19-year-old Habib Diarra from Strasbourg is another option, but a move for him will only materialise if Denis Zakaria‘s potential move to Monaco is finalised.
