Juventus transfers: Bianconeri must sell midfield trio to fund Kessie move from Barcelona

Juventus remain determined to sign former AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie from Barcelona, but must move Denis Zakaria and Weston McKennie on first, whilst they may also cash in on Paul Pogba.

Juventus are determined to bolster their midfield with the signing of Franck Kessie from Barcelona, but cannot complete the move until they have offloaded their own unwanted players.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Bianconeri have initiated contact with Kessie and Barcelona over a loan move, despite the La Liga champions seeking to sell him outright.

Newly appointed football director Cristiano Giuntoli is looking to hold off competition from the Premier League and Saudi Arabia for Kessie, with coach Massimiliano Allegri requesting the Ivorian for the upcoming campaign, as he looks to return the club to the Champions League.

In order to facilitate the signing of the former AC Milan midfielder, Juventus must move three other midfielders on to raise funds and space in their squad for Kessie.

Top of the list is an ex-Barcelona player in Arthur Melo, and the Bianconeri have succeeded in offloading him to Fiorentina for a €2 million loan fee, with an additional €2m expected to be received in bonuses.

Meanwhile, La Viola have the option to sign the Brazilian outright next summer for €20m, whilst Juventus are saving almost €6m in wages for a player who has returned from an injury-hit loan spell with Liverpool.

Zakaria and McKennie face uncertain Juventus futures

Giuntoli is continuing to push Denis Zakaria out of the door at the Allianz Stadium, with the Switzerland international failing to establish himself since joining from Borussia Monchengladbach in January 2022 and spending last season on loan at Chelsea.

The 26-year-old has been left out of Juventus‘ squad for a preseason training camp in the USA and could be set for a return to the Premier League, with West Ham United considering a move for him after selling Declan Rice to Arsenal. Fellow Premier League club Aston Villa have also shown an interest in Zakaria, whilst he also had admirers in the Bundesliga.

Juventus are keen to recoup €18m for Zakaria, whilst his sale would also see them move his €3m salary off the wage bill, giving them greater room to manoeuvre in their pursuit of Kessie.

Finally, the Bianconeri are also looking to move Weston McKennie on this summer if the opportunity presents itself, though the American is not considered completely surplus to requirements.

The former Schalke midfielder endured a miserable spell with Leeds United last season and the Whites’ relegation meant that a permanent option was not taken up after his loan, but McKennie has drawn interest from elsewhere in England, as well as in Germany and Turkey.

Juventus risk losing Pogba

Whilst Juventus are keen to sell Zakaria and McKennie after successfully offloading Arthur, they are also anticipating interest from Saudi Arabia in Paul Pogba.

Having returned to La Vecchia Signora as a free agent from Manchester United last year, Pogba endured a miserable season back in Turin and only made six Serie A appearances, whilst his latest injury in May has prevented him from joining the squad in preseason training.

Despite his physical issues, it is expected that Pogba could receive a contract proposal worth €30m per year from an as yet unnamed Saudi club, whilst Juventus would be willing to sell for €10m.
