Juventus pushing for Milinkovic-Savic signing: How would he fit in under Allegri?

Juventus are making a real push to give Massimiliano Allegri the midfielder he's been craving in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and players could be sent in the opposite direction in order to land the Lazio star.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could leave Lazio in the summer transfer window and Juventus are eager to lure the Serbian midfielder to Turin as they try to rebuild their squad ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The 28-year-old is contracted to the Aquile until the end of June 2024 and he has notified the club hierarchy that he has no intention of signing a contract renewal. With this in mind, Biancocelesti president Claudio Lotito does not want to risk losing him on a free transfer, and he is open to selling the Serbia international.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus can sign Milinkovic-Savic for €25 million, which is very low considering that Lotito wanted €75m just one year ago and €100m two years ago. Bianconeri boss Massimiliano Allegri has admired the Serbian for a long time and he may finally get the opportunity to coach him.

Where would Milinkovic-Savic fit in at Juventus?

Allegri looks likely to persist with the 3-5-2 formation that he implemented throughout the 2022/23 campaign again in 2023/24, and with the likes of Adrien Rabiot and Leandro Paredes leaving, the Juventus coach wants reinforcements in the midfield.

Manuel Locatelli is expected to direct the play in midfield while Nicolo Fagioli would be tasked with winning the ball back as well as be an auxiliary playmaker. Milinkovic-Savic can be a ball-winner, but his main strength is making late runs into the penalty area to score and assist goals.

Further talks for other deals between Juventus and Lazio

Allegri admired Sami Khedira’s ability to make those same runs, but then he struggled with injuries, and the coach has not found a midfielder who can perform that role. Purchasing Milinkovic-Savic would end that search.

Milinkovic-Savic wants to remain in Italy, and he would be based in the same city as his brother Vanja, who plays in goal for Torino. The Serbian midfielder might look set for Juventus, but there are some players who are owned by the Bianconeri that could head in the opposite direction.

Lazio want a discount to sign Luca Pellegrini and Juventus currently want €15 million to sell the left-back. The Biancocelesti are interested in midfielders Denis Zakaria and Arthur Melo while Aquile coach Maurizio Sarri is an admirer of Nicolo Rovella, who impressed on loan at Monza.

Milinkovic-Savic looks set to leave Lazio after eight seasons, but the 2022/23 Serie A runners-up could use this opportunity to improve the depth of their squad.
