Lazio transfers: Sarri eyeing up Napoli’s Zielinski to replace Milinkovic Savic

Lazio are looking to replace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Maurizio Sarri wants to be reunited with Piotr Zielinski, who is in a contract stand-off with Napoli.

Lazio are in need of a new midfielder after selling Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League and Maurizio Sarri has decided that Napoli‘s Piotr Zielinski is the right profile for the Biancocelesti.

The Polish international recently rejected a move to Al-Ahli which does suggest that he is keen to remain with the Napoli team that won the Serie A title in 2022/23, but Lazio know that Napoli will accept the right bid for the midfielder, according to Calciomercato.com.

The way that Napoli‘s pre-season preparations are going under new coach Rudi Garcia could be a deciding factor in whether Zielinski opens up to a move away from Campania.

The 29-year-old’s current deal in Naples expires at the end of the 23/24 campaign which has heightened the interest of Lazio, though currently Zielinski is content to stay with the Partenopei.

The ideal situation for Napoli and Aurelio De Laurentiis is that a bid comes in from Lazio and Zielinski accepts the move, as the president is always willing to sell for the right price. However, they wouldn’t be against the midfielder staying if the right deal can be found on a contract extension.

Zielinski’s current deal sees him earn €4.8 million per season, but shockingly, this figure would have to be almost halved for the Partenopei to consider extending the deal for the midfielder. Talks have been held with Bartolomej Bolek, the player’s agent and there is a desire from all sides to find a resolution quickly.

When the two clubs first spoke regarding a deal for the midfielder, Napoli stated that it would take a fee of €30m to reunite Sarri and Zielinski, a fee which Lazio president Claudio Lotito deemed too much.

Sarri has been clear about who he wants in his midfield. Lazio have been offered other midfielders, namely Fred from Manchester United and also Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham Hotspur. Sarri turned down both, remaining insistent on Zielinski.

If the clubs don’t find a middle ground when negotiating a deal, Sarri has instructed Lotito to work on a deal for Samuele Ricci from fellow Serie A club, Torino. It is believed that the Italian youngster would cost somewhere in the region of €25m, a much more reasonable fee for Lazio, especially considering the age factor.
