Monza confirm creation of their Women’s First Team from 2024/25

Monza have announced that they have created a women's football squad and they will participate in the 2024/25 Promozione season.

Monza confirmed on Friday, June 14, 2024, that they will have a women’s football team participating from the 2024/25 season on.

The Brianzoli have had a significant financial boost since 2018 thanks to the late patron Silvio Berlusconi and with Adriano Galliani as CEO. The Monza (Men’s) Football Team participated in Serie A for the first time in 2022/23, and the formation of the women’s squad represents another important milestone for the club from the Lombardy region in Northern Italy.

Monza will enter the women’s football pyramid via the Promozione championship, and not enter directly into the top, professional tier.

Monza Women’s First Team confirmed

Monza released a statement confirming the formation of women’s first team on Friday, June 14, 2024.

AC Monza announces the creation of the Women’s First Team as of the 2024/25 football season,” the club said on their official website.

“A new page of history, which will see the Biancorosse play for the first time in the Promozione championship and play their home matches at the ‘Centro Sportivo Silvio e Luigi Berlusconi-Monzello’.”

The new women’s stadium is a walkable distance from the men’s U-Power Stadium.

The General Manager of the Youth Sector of AC Monza, Mauro Bianchessi was delighted with the announcement, giving credit to Roberta Antignozzi, who is in charge of the women’s sector, and he also believes that the Brianzoli are setting an example for other clubs in surrounding areas.

“After a season of great achievements, the club proves even more to believe in the Women’s Football Department, led by the Responsible Manager Roberta Antignozzi, starting a new fascinating path and continuing to enhance its Youth Sector, a reference point for the territory,” Bianchessi said.

Deputy Vice-President and CEO Adriano Galliani was also thrilled with the announcement.

“We are proud and enthusiastic to start this new ambitious project,” Galliani said.

“Joining the Promozione championship is a further step in our growth, which testifies to the club’s ambitions and how important women’s football is for us. Our goal is to continue working with passion and determination, the only way to achieve great results.”

Prior to returning to the club in 2018, Galliani was vice-president of Monza from 1984 to 1986, and he was at AC Milan from 1986 to 2017, working as the CEO as well as other directorial roles.
