Napoli transfer plans: How do they intend to replace Kim Min-jae and Osimhen?

Napoli are likely to need to replace big names this summer, with Kim Min-jae, Victor Osimhen and others attracting interest. They've set their sights on a number of players in Serie A, Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga to make moves for.

Whilst the spine of Napoli’s Serie A title-winning squad will remain the same for the 2023/24 season, departures are expected with there being heavy interest in several stars of the side. Some of the changes have already come and next season they will be led by new coach Rudi Garcia, after the departure of Luciano Spalletti.

The former AS Roma boss has a lot to steer through this summer, with the departure of Kim Min-jae likely and Victor Osimhen also facing a possible exit. So, investments will have to be made by Aurelio De Laurentiis if they are to stay competitive.

The principles for the composition of the squad will remain the same. The Partenopei will focus on building for the future, and not wasting time this window, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Sales to come, but Napoli aren’t selling cheap

Napoli’s main income will come from the sale of Kim. The Italian champions will likely sell the Korean for €60 million through his release clause, likely to Bayern Munich.

The Osimhen saga continues and looks like it will for some time. Given Napoli’s stance on the sale of the striker, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports it will take a ‘super fee’ – one in excess of €100m.

Additionally, Napoli receive €40m for their place in the Champions League next season meaning that there is almost a guarantee that Rudi Garcia will have money to invest with, regardless of if Osimhen departs or not.

How will Napoli replace Kim and Osimhen?

Giovanni Simeone‘s loan has been made permanent for a €12m fee with the 27-year-old signing a contract until 2026. The club have the option to extend the deal by an extra year.

The club also has taken an interest in Jonathan David and will act on this interest if Osimhen departs. The 23-year-old originally replaced the Nigerian at Lille after the French club received their second-highest fee ever for the striker when he moved to Napoli.

The Canadian has been prolific in Ligue 1, scoring 26 goals across all competitions in the 2022/23 season, assisting four times as well. At 23, the striker has a long career ahead of him and for €50m it is likely that his valuation would only rise if he were to replace his Lille predecessor successfully again.

Atalanta duo, Ligue 1 and Bundesliga standouts as well

In the case of Kim, his replacement is likely to be in the form of Atalanta youngster Giorgio Scalvini. The Partenopei have had an interest in the Italian starlet for some time, given they have known the threat of the Korean’s departure this summer for some time. The Bergamo-based defender would set the club back €30m, a reasonable price for the potential that Scalvini possesses.

The club are also interested in Kevin Danso of Lens, the Austrian has been a standout performer in Ligue 1 this year and has been a staple of their historic season where the club has qualified for the Champions League. There is also interest in David Hancko from Feyenoord who has gained many plaudits this season for his brilliant season in the Eredivisie.

De Laurentiis is also prepared to dip into the Bundesliga defender market, looking at Hiroki Ito from Stuttgart or alternatively, Kou Itakura from Borrusia Monchengladbach.

With the funds available from sales, it is thought that the Partenopei will look at bringing another midfielder into the club and Teun Koopmeiners of Atalanta will be looked at, given his versatility and profile. Another player who intrigues the club is Gabri Veiga. The 21-year-old has had a great season in La Liga this year and with a high potential ceiling, his release clause of around €40m looks tempting.
