Napoli winger Kvaratskhelia set for high release clause: Will it be enough to scare off Europe’s elite?

Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to keep star winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at Napoli, but the Partenopei patron wants to insert a new release clause in case the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City try to sign him.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has been a revelation at Napoli since joining the southern Italian club in the summer of 2022, and Partenopei president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to hold onto his star winger.

The 22-year-old has not begun the 2023/24 season in the same way as the previous one, and former coach Rudi Garcia was starting Giacomo Raspadori on the left wing in the earlier rounds. However, new coach Walter Mazzarri is willing to place his trust in the attacking talents of the Georgian forward and make him the priority on the wing.

According to, De Laurentiis wants to keep Kvaratskhelia at Napoli and give the left winger an improved contract. He also wants to insert a release clause in case one of Europe’s big clubs present a lucrative offer to purchase the Georgian.

Napoli to offer contract extension to Kvaratskhelia and insert release clause

Kvaratskhelia is contracted to Napoli until the end of June 2027 and he currently earns €1.3 million per season. Although the 22-year-old does not seem to be in a rush to sign a new deal, the Neapolitans want to ensure that he is being rewarded for his heroics so far in Naples.

A renewal to extend his contract to 2028 or 2029 is a possibility, and he could earn around €3-3.5m a year with the potential to earn as much €4m after bonuses are considered. De Laurentiis reportedly wants to insert a release clause in the Georgian’s contract and he will only listen to offers above €100m to sell the left winger.

Real Madrid and Manchester City among countless others targeting Kvaratskhelia

Kvaratskhelia has gained attention from some of the giants of European football after playing an inspirational role in Napoli’s 2022/23 Serie A triumph and winning the Serie A MVP award.

The Spanish duo of Real Madrid and Barcelona are observing the rise of the Georgian forward, whereas his admirers in the English Premier League consist of Manchester City, Newcastle United, and Chelsea. He possesses the pace and stamina that would help him adapt to English football, but he has great skill and flair, which would make him a welcome addition to La Liga.

Nobody can predict how long Kvaratskhelia will remain at Napoli, but it is clear that he should be rewarded for his performances with the Partenopei and they should sell him for a substantial profit if he leaves.
