Newcastle and Liverpool among contenders to sign Chiesa: Which club would suit the Juventus winger?

The next player to leave Serie A for the Premier League could be Juventus' Federico Chiesa, with Newcastle, Liverpool and more interested. PSG and Bayern Munich could also be options for the winger. But where would suit him best?

Federico Chiesa is expected to leave Juventus after three seasons with the Italian giants, and his next club is likely to be outside of Italy, with English clubs Newcastle and Liverpool showing interest in the Italian winger.

The 25-year-old is contracted to the Bianconeri until June 2025, but it is improbable that he will sign a contract extension, and the Serie A club do not want to risk losing him on a free transfer in two years’ time.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus want €60 million to sell Chiesa, and Premier League clubs Newcastle, Liverpool, and Aston Villa are interested in the Italy international. Meanwhile, European giants Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also considering a move.

A 10-point penalty for capital gains fraud denied Juventus a finish in the Champions League spots, and the Bianconeri need to find ways to earn €80m that they would have earned participating in Europe’s premier cup competition.

Lucrative offers could lure Chiesa away from Serie A

The English clubs seem to be the most interested in Chiesa, but they have not made any formal proposals to Juventus because of the difference in valuation. Newcastle and Villa value him at €50m while Liverpool value him at €40m.

Bayern Munich have been admirers of Chiesa since his heroics at Euro 2020 with the Azzurri, but Juventus were not willing to sell him after the tournament. Now that the circumstances of the player and the club have changed, the German giants may seize an opportunity here.

French champions Paris Saint-Germain also want to purchase the 25-year-old, but they have to make sales first before making any significant acquisitions. With stars like Neymar and Marco Verratti possibly on their way out, they should be able to make space in their squad for Chiesa.

Newcastle would be the best option for Chiesa

For a variety of reasons, a transfer to Newcastle could be the best choice for Chiesa. Currently earning €5m per season at Juventus, he would earn at least €7m if he joins the Magpies, and he would also play in the Champions League.

Compared to other interested clubs, Liverpool will be playing in the Europa League in 2023/24 whereas Aston Villa will be playing in the Europa Conference League like Juventus, giving Newcastle the upper hand in that aspect.

With Newcastle playing in the Champions League, their Saudi Arabian owners are prepared to make huge investments in the squad, and they have already signed Sandro Tonali from AC Milan. Having a compatriot in the team could help Chiesa adapt to English football and life in England better.

Arguably the most crucial factor will be the Italian’s role in the Newcastle team. Eddie Howe implements a 4-3-3 formation and the winger can play on both the right and the left flank of the attack. At Juventus, Massimiliano Allegri has failed to get the best out of him as either a wing-back or support striker in the 3-5-2. In a more attacking system under Howe, Chiesa can use his pace and dribbling skills to the best effect as well as get into more scoring positions.
