Official: DAZN strikes deal to televise Serie A Femminile matches despite season being underway

Serie A Femminile has found a broadcaster with DAZN striking a deal with the FIGC to begin televising the matches from the second matchday of the season. The first matchday has already passed without paid-for coverage within Italy.

With the deal for the 2022/23 season having expired, clubs were left with no TV money to factor into their budgets as this news concerns the paid-for TV rights. The free-to-air deals had already been struck for the 2023/24 season.

With the news that DAZN viewers will be able to watch the games, there is relief for Serie A Femminile clubs who rely on the TV money as an important part of their financial ecosystem.

DAZN’s women’s football coverage grows

DAZN have become a big name in the world of women’s football given the platform is home to the UEFA Women’s Champions League, Barclays FA Women’s Super League, National Women’s Soccer League, Liga F and Frauen Bundesliga.

Federica Cappelletti, President of the Professional Women’s Serie A Division of the FIGC, stressed the importance of finding this deal with DAZN before another matchday passes.

“The arrival of the Serie A Femminile on DAZN is wonderful news for all Italian women’s football and is synonymous with quality and visibility. I have personally had the opportunity to appreciate the narrative style used by the platform in football storytelling and, in the case of women’s football, events such as the UEFA Women’s Champions League, and I am convinced that this agreement will contribute in an extraordinary way to increasing the value of our league, making it take a further leap in quality, both technically and culturally,” she said.

When will DAZN start televising Serie A Femminile?

The FIGC’s statement says that the new deal is going to come into effect straight away, meaning the Matchday 2 Serie A Femminile fixtures will be televised within Italy.

It will be there for DAZN subscribers who have activated a START, STANDARD or PLUS subscription. That means that can watch AS Roma vs Como, Napoli vs AC Milan, Sassuolo vs Pomigliano, Juventus vs Sampdoria and Inter vs Fiorentina.
