Osimhen, Lautaro, Tonali: Who are the most valuable players in Serie A?

There is an incredible crop of talent in Serie A right now which is why so many players from the top sides are being linked with expensive moves away. Which ten players are more valuable than all of the rest in Serie A?

Whilst Italian football may not quite dominate the world in the way that it once did, there is still an incredible amount of talent residing in Serie A. Some may try and argue against this, but Serie A has become something of a feeder league for the Premier League, LaLiga, and occasionally other major sides in Europe like Bayern Munich and PSG.

It is not uncommon for players to arrive in Italy from smaller leagues, either in or outside of Europe, and then be sold for much higher fees to wealthier clubs or domestic leagues.

With that in mind, which of the current Serie A players are the most expensive, and could therefore garner the biggest fee if they decided to move on from Italian football or find a new team in Serie A? Transfermarkt calculate the value of almost every player in football, so that is the valuation we are using here.

Who are the most expensive players in Serie A right now?

10 – Sandro Tonali – AC Milan – €50m

One of many players that are being linked with moves away from Serie A this summer is Sandro Tonali. The AC Milan midfielder has consolidated his place over the last two seasons as a key player for the Rossoneri, and that form is leading to interest from the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle United this summer.

9- Theo Hernandez – AC Milan – €60m

Another AC Milan player who is attracting interest from the Premier League, Theo Hernandez’s incredible dribbling and shooting from left-back have made him one of the best in that position in the world. Manchester United and Manchester City seem to be in hot pursuit of the Frenchman.

8- Alessandro Bastoni – Inter – €60m

There have been times in the past when it seemed incredibly likely that Inter are going to sell Alessandro Bastoni. He has been highly rated for a long time and despite having an underwhelming 2022/23, his level has remained high enough that he is a very, very valuable part of Inter’s squad.

7- Kim Min-jae – Napoli – €60m

Considering Napoli only bought Kim Min-jae for €18.05m from Fenerbahce last summer, the fact that he is now valued at €60m shows just how incredible a season the South Korean has had. He has been the bedrock of Napoli’s first Scudetto in 33 years, and that is why Bayern Munich and Manchester United are so keen.

6- Dusan Vlahovic – Juventus – €70m

Dusan Vlahovic’s current stock in Serie A would not lead you to believe he is such a valuable player. He has been struggling for form and could be on his way out of Juventus. They paid just under €82m for him in January 2022, so the valuation shows that he has not come on leaps and bounds with the Bianconeri.

5- Nicolo Barella – Inter – €75m

It has seemed for a few years now that Nicolo Barella could be Italy’s next big export, or at least the next huge star to stay at the top of Serie A for a very long time. There are flaws to his game, but Barella is a wonderful midfielder who is once again being linked with the Premier League. This could be the summer that he says goodbye to Inter, unless they can offload other players first.

4- Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – Napoli – €85m

Nobody’s value has risen more than Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s in Serie A over the last season. The Georgian winger arrived in Napoli for €11.5m and he is now worth an incredible €85m instead. Despite his amazing season, there are very few rumours about his future, suggesting he knows it is best to do another season at Napoli.

3- Lautaro Martinez – Inter – €85m

Inter’s most valuable player, Lautaro Martinez has been linked with a move to a wealthier club ever since he arrived from Racing. Inter beat Barcelona to his signature at the time. Having ended the 2022/23 campaign really well, Lautaro is now one of the most valuable players in Serie A.

2- Rafael Leao – AC Milan – €90m

Rafael Leao’s real value is arguably even higher than €90m given he just signed a new contract with AC Milan. The Portuguese forward will not be on the move this summer but if he has another good season in Serie A, a wealthy club will surely put the money on table.

1- Victor Osimhen – Napoli – €120m

By many people’s estimations, Victor Osimhen was the best player in Serie A during the 2022/23 campaign and that is why he is the most valuable player in the league. He is a striker coming into his prime with a lot of time still to score goals, and that is why there are clubs queueing up to add him to their attack.
