Ex-Italy boss Roberto Mancini takes Saudi Arabia job after controversial Azzurri resignation

Roberto Mancini's resignation from the Italy Men's National Team job came as a surprise, but it could be argued that the Azzurri have upgraded in appointing Luciano Spalletti. Now, Mancini has signed up for a big payday as Saudi Arabia coach.

Roberto Mancini has wasted no time in getting back into football management after stepping down from his position as coach of the Italy Men’s National Team. The former Azzurri boss has taken the job as coach of Saudi Arabia.

Mancini surprised the Italian Football Federation – the FIGC – with his decision to resign from his position as Italy boss earlier in August, and a war of words has since commenced between the former Sampdoria, Inter, and Manchester City coach and FIGC president Gabriele Gravina

After announcing his resignation, Mancini lamented that there was too much interference in his work from Gravina and the FIGC in general, leading to him calling time on his spell with the national team shortly before the upcoming European Championship qualifiers.

Gravina denies this but he has managed to get Luciano Spalletti in position with a good amount of time to prepare for the upcoming fixtures against North Macedonia and Ukraine.

Former Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti has since succeeded Mancini on the Azzurri bench.

Roberto Mancini Saudi Arabia contract

Italian media have reported that Mancini has penned a contract as coach of the Saudi Arabia national team until 2027 and that he will pocket €25 million per year after tax.
