Three takeaways from Salernitana 0-2 Napoli: Raspadori stars, Lobotka crucial and hosts overdependent on Dia

In the absence of Victor Osimhen, Giacomo Raspadori stepped up again for Napoli as they won 2-0 against a Boulaye Dia dependent Salernitana, and Stanislav Lobotka also highlighted his importance to the Partenopei.

Reigning Serie A champions Napoli got back to winning ways on Matchday 11 of the 2023/24 campaign with a 2-0 win over Salernitana at the Stadio Arechi, that kept their Campania neighbours stuck to the bottom of the table.

The writing was on the wall early on for the Granata, as Giacomo Raspadori gave the Partenopei the lead on 13 minutes, but Filippo Inzaghi’s side threatened the Napoli goal on several occasions before Eljif Elmas added a second late on.

Giacomo Raspadori relishing Osimhen absence

Although Raspadori finished the 2022/23 season with Serie A medal around his neck, after moving south from Sassuolo at the start of the last campaign, the 23-year-old would have expected to contribute more than two goals in 26 appearances.

However, after finishing confidently past Guillermo Ochoa on 13 minutes, the Italian international has already equalled that domestic total, and scored three in his last three appearances, including the vital winner away to Union Berlin in the Champions League.

It could have been more before half-time, but the Mexican goalkeeper made an excellent fingertip save to at his near post to deny the attacker, and with Victor Osimhen still absent through injury, Raspadori is relishing the added responsibility.

Stanislav Lobotka box-to-box display helps secure victory

Many think of Stanislav Lobotka has little more than a defensive midfielder destroyer. Scurrying around the pitch, making tackles, winning back the ball and giving it to his more acclaimed teammates to go forward and win the points for the Neapolitans.

Against Salernitana, though, 28-year-old once again showed just how important his place as the central cog in the Napoli machine is, but was continually driving forward with the ball and supporting attacking moves. It was the Slovakian who played the perfectly weighted pass through to Raspadori on the edge of the Granata box on 13 minures that set the Partenopei on the way to victory.

Salernitana are too dependent on Boulaye Dia

While the Granata remain pinned to the bottom of the Serie A table, they did offer rare moments of concern to the Napoli defence. Managing 10 attempts on the Partenopei goal. However, that just three of those forced goalkeeper Alex Meret into action and none were converted, highlights how painfully dependent on Boulaye Dia they are.

With three goals in seven games, the 26-year-old is one of the few positives from the Salernitana so far, but by the end of the campaign that will only convert itself into the size of transfer fee they can command for his services.

The Senegal attacker has scored 75 percent of the Granata goals at the Stadio Arechi this season, which is the most of any club operating in Europe’s top five leagues, and with them yet to win in any of their 11 games this term, the future looks bleak for Salernitana.
