Sampdoria sack Giampaolo following heavy Monza defeat

Sampdoria have finally seen enough as Marco Giampaolo is sacked following the 3-0 defeat at home to Monza.

Sampdoria have officially parted ways with head coach Marco Giampaolo in response to their 3-0 home defeat against Monza on Sunday afternoon and consistent poor results in Serie A.

I Blucerchiati put in a particularly poor performance on Sunday as they were beaten 3-0 by a Monza side that had not won a game until the previous matchday when they beat Juventus.

The first goal came from Matteo Pessina after 11 minutes and then the lead was doubled in the 67th minute by former Samp forward Gianluca Caprari in impressive fashion. The misery was concluded in stoppage time when Inter loanee Stefano Sensi made it 3-1 to Raffaele Palladino.

Giampaolo runs out of time at Sampdoria

There have been calls from fans to sack Giampaolo long before this humiliating defeat against Monza. Sampdoria only narrowly avoided relegation to Serie B last season under him on the current trajectory, they will not avoid relegation.

That is why the board have acted and relieved Giampaolo of his duties whilst there is still time for the season to be salvaged. Vice president Antonio Romei confirmed to the press after the game that there are no more excuses for Giampaolo.

Sampdoria sit at the bottom of the Serie A table after Matchday 8 and they have only managed to get two points from a possible 24. It is worse than relegation form and the coach has not got anything out of the players that joined late in the transfer window.

Matches against Bologna and Cremonese come up soon which are games they must target for points, whilst tougher tests against AS Roma and Inter are also coming up.

Giampaolo started his second spell as Samp boss on January 19, 2022.
