Sassuolo 0-2 Atalanta: Goals, highlights and report – Serie A 2023/24

Charles De Ketelaere had a big impact on his Atalanta debut, scoring the opener in their 2-0 win away at Sassuolo before a pinpoint Nadir Zortea strike sealed the points in Reggio Emilia.

MAPEI STADIUM (Reggio Emilia): Atalanta and Charles De Ketelaere enjoyed the perfect start to their 2023/24 Serie A season as they claimed a well-earned 2-0 win away at Sassuolo on Matchday 1.

Starting on the bench, De Ketelaere came on for Duvan Zapata at half time and had an instant impact. First heading over from close range and later smacking the crossbar after some nice footwork from fellow debutant and second-half arrival Gianluca Scamacca. His luck finally turned as he headed narrowly over the line, with technology awarding the goal after Andrea Consigli looked to have saved it. Nadir Zortea sealed the points with a fine long-range strike in stoppage time.

The win allows Atalanta to start yet another Serie A season on the right foot, now winning each of their last six season openers under Gian Piero Gasperini. Sassuolo had won both prior games against the Nerazzurri at the Mapei Stadium under Alessio Dionisi before Sunday.
