Serie A 2022/23: Player of the Week – Matchday 19

Atalanta have found their entertaining skills again in recent weeks and Ademola Lookman's performances are a huge part of that, which makes him our Player of the Week for Matchday 19.

Atalanta may not have left Turin with three points on Sunday night, but attacker Ademola Lookman was the undoubted star of Matchday 19 of the 2022/23 campaign during a 3-3 draw with Juventus, playing a part in all the visitors’ goals to be crowned our Serie A Player of the Week.

The two points dropped by the Bianconeri at the Juventus Stadium was another blow for the Italian giants, after being hit with a 15-point deduction for alleged financial irregularities and they are now trying to claw themselves back up the league table, after dropping to 10th.

All eyes on Lookman

After four goals in his previous two games, it took the 25-year-old just four minutes to give La Dea the lead against the troubled club, although Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny should have dealt better with Lookman’s rasping drive.

An Angel Di Maria penalty and a first-time finish from Arkadiusz Milik just before half-time gave the hosts the lead, but moments after the break it was the ex-Everton winger who played in wing-back Joakim Maehle to equalise.

With the Old Lady reeling from yet another setback, it was the 5ft 9in Lookman who rose highest in the penalty box to head a Jeremie Boga cross past the helpless Szczesny.

Nerazzurri back in Champions League chase

With Juventus seemingly out of the Champions League qualification picture and Napoli looking set for a first Scudetto since 1989/90, Atalanta seem ready to fight AC Milan, Inter, AS Roma and Lazio for the remaining three places.

Just three points separate the side from Bergamo, the Milanese duo and pair from the capital, but with the English-born Nigerian international in inspired form this term – 13 goals in 19 appearances – they could once again overcome their more storied rivals.
